Welcome to the AACRAO Awards System. In this system you may submit nominations for all of the AACRAO Awards below. Please review the requirements for each award and feel free to nominate as many as you wish. You will be asked to provide some supporting information for each one you nominate and the nominee will also be contacted to provide additional or more in-depth information.
APEX Award for Student SuccessThe APEX Award, sponsored by SunGard Higher Education, recognizes individuals for outstanding professional achievement in support of student success. SunGard awards $5,000, in the recipient's name, to a scholarship fund at his or her institution.
In order to nominate someone for the APEX award, please be prepared to describe in detail how the nominee's achievements have fostered student success, as defined by your institution. Please also be prepared to indicate the nominee's level of involvement in state and/or regional associations as well as in AACRAO. You will have the option of uploading any supporting documentation and/or photos.
Nominate someone for this award Award for Excellence in International EducationThe Award for Excellence in International Education is bestowed in recognition for the outstanding contributions an individual has given to the profession of international education. Membership in AACRAO is not required.
The recipient should be a professional in the field of international education who has demonstrated a commitment to internationalism and has not only made an impact on the profession but on those that serve in it as well. In order to nominate someone for the Award for Excellence in International Education, you will need to describe the nominee's contributions to international education, their commitment to internationalism and their involvement in AACRAO. You will also have the option of uploading any supporting documentation and/or photo.
Nominate someone for this award Distinguished ServiceThe Distinguished Service Award recognizes an active or retired AACRAO member for exceptional contributions to the profession in a volunteer capacity at the national level.
Eligibility requires AACRAO membership for a minimum of ten years. Members who have served on the Board of Directors within the past three years are not eligible for the award. In order to nominate someone for the Distinguished Service Award, you will need to briefly describe how the nominee has given service to AACRAO on a broad basis over an extended period of time. You will also have the option of uploading any supporting documentation and/or photo.
Nominate someone for this award Elbert W. Ockerman State and Regional Professional Activity AwardThe Elbert W. Ockerman State and Regional Professional Activity Award recognizes up to three outstanding state and regional activities. Each winning association's president receives an Annual Meeting registration fee waiver, and each winning association is awarded a monetary prize of $500.
In order to nominate a state and regional association for the Ockerman award, you will need the following items: title and description of the professional activity, and an explanation of how this activity benefited the state or regional association and its members. Award recipients will present their activity at the State and Regional Officers' Workshop at AACRAO's Annual Meeting.
Nominate someone for this award Exemplary New MemberThe Exemplary New Member Award recognizes professionals who have, within the first five years of their membership, made an exceptional or unique contribution that demonstrates promise as a future AACRAO leader.
In order to nominate someone for the Exemplary New Member Award, you will need to briefly describe ways in which the nominee has made an exceptional or unique contribution to AACRAO which demonstrates promise as a future AACRAO leader, and describe the nominee's involvement in AACRAO, including any leadership roles. You will also have the option of uploading any supporting documentation and/or photo.
Nominate someone for this award Founders Award for LeadershipThe Founders Award for Leadership is presented for vision, leadership, and longevity of service to the profession.
It is awarded to an AACRAO member who has contributed for seven or more years, and has held two or more leadership roles in the association in such positions as Committee Chair, Task Force Chair, Special Project Director, Program Director, or Board of Directors. This award is named in honor of those who had the foresight to recognize the needs of the profession and founded AACRAO to meet those needs. In order to nominate someone for the Founders Award for Leadership, you will need to briefly describe the nominee's vision, leadership, and longevity of service to the profession; and describe the nominee's involvement in AACRAO, including number of years of service as well as any leadership roles.
Nominate someone for this award Honorary MembershipHonorary Membership is awarded in recognition of a member's active involvement and contribution to AACRAO.
In order to nominate someone for Honorary Membership, you will need to list any time that the nominee has served in AACRAO activities, including LAC, a Task Force, the SPEEDE Committee, N&E, the Program Committee, Inter-Association Representative, the Board of Directors; list any awards the nominee has received, including the Distinguished Service Award, the APEX Award, the Founders Award for Leadership, the Thomas A. Bilger Citation for Service, and the Exemplary New Member Award; briefly describe any service done as author or editor of an article or chapter in an AACRAO publication; and any other significant contributions made to AACRAO.
Nominate someone for this award Thomas A. Bilger Citation for ServiceThe Thomas A. Bilger Citation for Service is presented for service to AACRAO and is awarded to a member who has five or more years of service and has provided outstanding contributions to conferences and programs, special projects, task forces, committee assignments, or other positions.
The Thomas A. Bilger Citation for Service is named after Tom Bilger who died on July 26, 2005 after a long and courageous fight against cancer. He served AACRAO in many different capacities over the course of a distinguished career of service to higher education. He died prior to the three-year rotation that would have culminated in his departure from the Board at the 2006 AACRAO Annual Meeting. Tom also served a three-year term on the AACRAO Board as Vice President for Association & Institutional Issues from 1999 through 2002. He mentored many of the current leaders of the Association and was much beloved for his kindness and profound humanity.
In order to nominate someone for the Thomas A. Bilger Citation for Service, you will need to briefly describe the ways in which the nominee has served AACRAO, including the number of years spent doing each activity.
